WHAT ARE THE CURRENT PROJECTS?

At the Arthur Rimbaud Foundation, we’re committed to making a tangible difference in the lives of students in Ethiopia. Our focus is on funding multiple schools across the region, each project tailored to meet the unique needs of its community. We are currently funding two school projects far off the beaten track.

Here’s a glimpse into the work we’re
doing:

KELETA BEERITI SCHOOL

About this school:

Kleta Beritti Primary School is located distance of 220 km from Addis Ababa, in an area lacking essential infrastructure such as roads and clean water supply. The school serves the educational needs of the Oromo community, with Afan Oromo as the medium of instruction. The absence of basic amenities places a strain on both students and teachers, who are forced to undertake long commutes and work in less than optimal conditions. Addressing these infrastructural challenges is critical for enhancing educational delivery and could lead to improved educational attainment and broader community development within the region.

DUFTU GUTICHA SCHOOL

About this school:

Located in the shadow of the Chilalo mountain chain within the Hetosa District, Duftu Guticha Primary School faces significant infrastructural and logistical challenges. The school’s remote position exacerbates the difficulty of accessing basic educational resources, with the nearest road several kilometers away and no direct electricity supply. The teaching staff, serving a student body primarily from the Oromo ethnic group and using Afan Oromo for instruction, operates under challenging conditions with ratios exceeding 100 students per teacher. This high ratio highlights the acute need for more teachers and educational resources, which could significantly impact the community by improving educational outcomes and ∫among the Oromo population.
